Product Details

"The cornbread was flavorful, moist and light with a deliciously tender crumb. My only hope with this recipe was that Isaiah would love it... And then Isaiah took a bite. The look on his face was pure heaven."
Cooking for Isaiah is a love story of Silvana Nardone's journey to develop great-tasting meals for her son, Isaiah, after he was diagnosed with food intolerances to gluten and dairy. The results of her efforts are found in the pages of this book, through 135 recipes that are not only easy to make, but taste and look delicious.
From "S'mores Pancakes with Marshmallow Sauce" to "Double-Decker Toasted Cornbread and Spicy Greens Stack," and "Chicken and Waffles with Maple Bacon Gravy" to "Chocolate Birthday Cake with Whipped Chocolate Frosting," all of the recipes in Cooking for Isaiah are entirely free of gluten and dairy. Crafted with a variety of cooks in mind, an ingredient substitution chart shows you what to swap if, for example, you need to cook without gluten, but dairy is okay. You'll also find Silvana's tried-and-tested all-purpose flour and pancake mix recipes, sure to make gluten-free cooking and baking accessible to all. Written by Silvana Nardone, Editor in Chief of Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine, this charming, personal cookbook belongs on every cook's shelf.

Best gluten/dairy free cookbook out there! - erin -
Going dairy and gluten free was really hard for me to do. I am not the type that wants to give it up and I felt clueless doing so. I got this cookbook and its downright amazing. Every single thing is wonderful in it. My husband is a dairy, meat, and gluten type of guy. He said and I quote "dont take this the wrong way, but since getting that cookbook your meals are soooo good." He also said you would never know you are eating dairy and gluten free. Our friends come over and they have no idea that everything is gluten free. Silvana's flour acts just like wheat all purpose flour.
This cookbook was a lifesaver. If you know anyone going gluten or dairy free, I highly recommend this book. It makes you feel like you can eat the same food as everyone else.

Recipes that work!!! - C. Roeder - Michigan
I have been gluten-free for over a year now. Being an avid cook, I choose to make all my own baked goods, rather than buying them ready-made. I have 5 GF cookbooks, and this one never fails to please. Unlike other cookbooks, where there are many editing errors, exotic or overly expensive ingredients, or just bad result after bad result, this one is right on the money.

I make the Cinnamon Raisin Bread every week (adding an additional 1/2 c. of raisins), and it stays nice and moist, has a high rise, and wonderful texture. I've made the Rye Bread (which is good as is, and better w/a 1/2 tsp. GF Rye Flavor from Authentic Foods) and again, great rise, texture and taste.

I'm not a big baker of sweets, but the Pecan Tassies were fantastic.

If you want absolutely grit-free rice flour, I'm sure you can substitute the extra-fine variety from Authentic Foods (The book does NOT use this expensive ingredient), but the cheaper, more readily available rice flours are working just fine for me.

If you want to make crackers, great desserts, pizza, buns, breads and want a good cookbook, with as little fuss as possible, this one won't let you down. Thank you Elizabeth Barbone for all the testing you did to make this book a winner.

From the authors of the groundbreaking, hugely popular Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day comes a new cookbook filled with quick and easy recipes for healthy bread

Their first book was called “stupendous,” “genius,” and “the holy grail of bread making.”  Now, in their much-anticipated second book, Jeff Hertzberg, M.D., and Zoë François have taken their super-fast method and adapted it for the health-conscious baker, focusing on whole grains and other healthier ingredients.

The method is still quick and simple, producing professional-quality results with each warm, fragrant, hearty loaf.  In just five minutes a day of active preparation time, you can create delectable, healthy treats such as 100% Whole Wheat Bread, Whole Grain Garlic Knots with Olive Oil and Parsley, Black-and-White Braided Pumpernickel and Rye Loaf, Black Pepper Focaccia, Pumpkin Pie Brioche, Chocolate Tangerine Bars, and a variety of gluten-free breads.  About a dozen of the recipes are 100% whole grain.

Healthy Bread in Five Minutes a Day will show you that there is time enough for home-baked bread, and that it can be part of a healthy diet.  Calling all bread lovers: Whether you are looking for more whole grains, watching your weight, trying to reduce your cholesterol, or just care about what goes into your body, this book is a must-have.  Visit www.HealthyBreadInFive.com for more information.

Jeff Hertzberg and Zoë François met while taking care of their toddlers at a kids’ music class, and co-authored their first book, Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking in 2007.  The book became a bestseller, with rave reviews in the New York Times, Associated Press, the Arizona Republic, and other media all over the United States, Canada, and Europe.  They’ve demonstrated their revolutionary stored-dough method on television in San Francisco, Chicago, Minneapolis, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Tampa, and Phoenix.

Great bread! - Chakrates -
I've only made the master recipe, and that only one time -- it was terrific! And as easy as they say. As time goes on, the flavor becomes like that of sourdough, which I love. I gave the last loaf of my first batch to my (picky) mother, and she LOVED it!

Great Book - GF Veg Head - Boston MA
This is a great book! I was recently diagnosed with Sprue & freaking out because I had no idea what to eat! After a little research, I felt better about knowing which ingredients to eat but had NO IDEA about what to make. This cookbook has tons of ideas! Not too much info/lists of specific foods/ingredients that could have gluten, but lots of great tasting gluten free recipes! My fav is the Southwestern Style Corn Chowder (very sweet) & Taco Soup. She doesn't use tofu as much as I thought she would, but overall a really great resource. I def recommend this book!! It's well worth the money!
